File Privileges/Permissions on Mac and Windows

If you have tried to run BusinessMan and cannot edit any fields or enter any information to begin with, it is more than likely that the file does not have the correct privileges/permissions set-up. The file will need read/write access for any user wanting to open BusinessMan. How to do this follows:

Note: If you are hosting the BusinessMan databases on FileMaker Server, you may need to "Close" the BuinessMan files before attempting to change the privileges.

Mac

  • Right-click on all BusinessMan files (It is important to do this to all BusinessMan files)
  • Click "Get Info"
  • Expand the "Sharing and Permissions" pane if not already expanded
  • Change the privilege to Read/Write (See below)
  • If you stopped FileMaker Server from hosting this file, you can now "Open" the file again.

Mac Privileges

Windows

Windows XP should be fine with regards to privileges if unstalled under your own account.

With Windows Vista/7 or higher:

  • Right-click on the files and select Properties
  • Change the privilege to Read/Write (Untick the Read-only box if ticked)
  • If you stopped FileMaker Server from hosting this file, you can now "Open" the file again.
